Mammoth Trails Meeting: Sherwins Area Trails + 10th Anniversary Party

Hello Trail Enthusiasts –

We can hardly believe it, but the Mammoth Lakes Trail System (MLTS) is about to turn Ten Years Young!

The MLTS was officially established on October 20, 2012 by a Memorandum of Understanding which created a partnership between the US Forest Service and the Town of Mammoth Lakes. The ribbon cutting ceremony on that beautiful fall day also kicked-off the implementation of the Trail System Master Plan which had been adopted by the Town Council the previous year. At that time there were just a handful of Trail Days stewardship events each summer to take care of trail maintenance and cleanup. Forest Service staff and a handful of dedicated groups were putting in the hours too, but it wasn’t enough. Knowing where things started, it’s incredible to see all the great ways we’ve grown in this first decade.

In light of this exciting 10th Anniversary, we’re happy to invite everyone to our upcoming Mammoth Trails meeting at Mammoth Brewing Company on Thursday, October 20th at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will focus on plans for upcoming new trails in the Shewins as described in the “Sherwins Area Recreation Plan” (a component of the Master Plan referred to as “SHARP.”) We’ll also provide a comprehensive overview of our program of layered stewardship, give you an opportunity to provide feedback, and of course, we’re going to celebrate!
